HOST FAMILY PLACEMENT
At ACEE, we aim to place our international high school students in supportive homes which will enable them to thrive in their new environment. We seek families that will take care of the students as they would their own children, encouraging their growth and well-being. Through our homestay placements, ACEE’s goal is to match each student with a clean, safe, positive, and influential family who, in turn, will mutually benefit from exposure to a foreign language and culture.
Hosting an ACEE student requires a one-year commitment from the host family. We do provide compensation for our families (varied by location); however, we also have the following requirements:
1. English must be the primary language spoken in the home.
2. The family will provide breakfast and dinner for the student on weekdays and three meals a day on weekends.
3. The family will provide transportation to a reasonable amount of extracurricular activities, assistance with homework, and inclusion in family activities.
4. The family will provide a bedroom for students (not shared with another family member), convenient access to a bathroom, and high speed internet.
5. Families should set clear rules and guidelines for the students to follow as guests in their homes.
6. Families may host additional international students, however we require only one Chinese student per household in order to ensure that the communication language in the home is always English.
7. Upon completion of our application, each family will subsequently be asked for photos of their home and all current residents in the home. All residents over the age of 18 living in the home will be required to undergo a criminal background check.
8. The host family is responsible to complete a report to ACEE according to student’s performance and attendance.
9. Along with our placement services and scholastic assistance, ACEE employs education counselors who contact the host families and students on a regular basis. These individuals act as a bridge between the Chinese student, Chinese parents, host family, and school. Our education counselors can help resolve any issues or concerns that may arise during the hosting experience. ACEE guides our students through their entire stay in the US and works hard to ensure a good fit for both the student and host family.
10. Note: Each host family will receive financial compensation on or before the first of each month. This form of compensation is considered taxable income. Each family will receive a 1099 form at the end of the calendar year for tax purposes.
