STEPS TO BECOME A HOST FAMILY
The following list contains the steps to become an ACEE host family:
1. School Partners:
Look at our list of school partners to determine whether you live near one of our partner high schools across California.
2. Research:
Read up on the requirements to be an ACEE host family and peruse our Host Family FAQ.
3. Application:
Complete an ACEE Host Parent application in as much detail as possible and send it via email to jerryjinyi@gmail.com or fax it to 626-965-3766.
4. Photos:
After receiving your application, an ACEE education counselor will contact you to request photos of your home and family. Sending these with your application will expedite the process.
5. Interview:
An ACEE representative will contact you to schedule a visit to your home and conduct a brief interview. This allows host families to meet an ACEE education counselor and ask any additional questions.
6. Background Check:
After being accepted as a potential ACEE host family, each member of your household age 18 or older must consent to undergo a national criminal background check.
7. Assignment:
Once all members of your household have cleared the background check, we will designate a student we feel is the best match for your home and you will receive information about your future host student as it becomes available.
8. Agreement:
As one of the final steps in the process, you will receive two copies of the ACEE Homestay Agreement, which outline the details of your agreement to host an international student. You must sign both copies: keep one for your records, and return one to ACEE within 10 days of receipt.
9. Arrival:
As your student’s arrival date draws near, an ACEE education counselor will contact you with details and any necessary arrangements.
10. Establish Rules and Build Relationship:
Shortly after your international student arrives in your home, be sure to outline rules and guidelines for the student to follow as your guest. ACEE provides a Student-Host Family Contract in both English and Chinese to ensure full understanding by both parties.
11. In addition,
remember that your student is in a foreign country, now far from home. Make your student feel welcomed and comfortable. Maintain Communication: Remember to respond to any ACEE correspondence as soon as possible, and feel free to contact the Los Angeles office via phone (909) 396-0499 or email info@aceeedu.com if you have any questions or concerns.
12. Enjoy – Your adventure has begun!
